I used to have mixed race ( straight and afro mix ) hair but I had it chemically relaxed 6months ago. I used keracare up until the point where we needed to buy cheaper conditioner. I invested in some herbal essences hello hydration conditioner but kept and used the keracare shampoo. My hair is a little staticy and dull but it also looks shinier and maybe healthier. Is this good for my hair or is it just coating my hair with crap and making it weaker? Is this shampoo damaging my chemically relaxed afro hair?
HE is not an investment, and is not good for your hair. You need to use a salon quality shampoo and conditioner. Drugstore junk is really harsh (so yes, it is causing damage). Drugstore conditioner is pretty pointless, it is not going to help you.Is this shampoo damaging my chemically relaxed afro hair?
Any shampoo/conditioner for that has keraton or any other like substance in it ie Pantene will just coat the hair and eventually make it weaker to the processes that we women put our hair through. It's like a false sense of security for a period of time then the elasticity will finally give way and hair will break and fall out more than it normally would and you'll have a whole new problem to deal with. I would suggest using more natural methods. I'm not saying don't stop using the product you are now using but try mixing it up with some intensive care processes like conditioning with olive oil and avocado. It won't have an effect on the chemical process you have already undertaken.
how can your hair be both shiny AND dull? im a bit confused. maybe you should try using a gentler shampoo, harsh shampoos usually make the hair look dull. try using shampoo that doesnt contain lauryl sulfate and paraben. A good shampoo would be the Carol's Daughter line of shampoos. They use natural ingredients and only cost about 12 bucks. it cleans your hair and it doesnt strip your hair of its natural oils, it leaves it feeling INCREDIBLY moisturized and shiny.
