Is stuff from places like Target and Wal-Mart fine, or is it better to get the better stuff. I heard the cheaper stuff leaves a wax like coating on your hair strands. What shampoo is the best to use?
I've tried cheaper and more expensive shampoos. Honestly, I don't think it makes that much difference.
I have found that switching shampoos often works well though. Not sure if that is true for others, my problem is fine hair that has no body. After a while, it's as if the shampoo stops working as well as did when I first bought it. I usually don't use that same shampoo for more than 3 days in row, I have about 3 different bottles I keep in the shower. I'm not sure exactly why, but it makes a difference.
As far as brands, I don't have any particular favorites. I think I've tried everything there is on the cheaper end, Pantene, Aussie, Herbal Essences, even the really cheap V05 works fine. I would get a couple of those and maybe go ahead and buy one of the more expensive shampoos. Everyone's hair is different, different shampoos probably give different results for different people, but I would definitely try mixing them up more, instead of using the same shampoo for a month. What shampoo is the best to use?
It is better to use shampoos without sodium laureth or lauryl sulfate in it, which maybe pricier then regular shampoos. Organix shampoo is pretty good but it has protein in it which some people are sensitive to. L'oreal has this new line called ever pure, I haven't tried it but it doesn't have sodium lauryl sulfate in it and my friend loves it so maybe you could give it a try. If you have to take away one thing from this post it is to NOT use Pentene, your hair may feel good when you first use it but the ingredients in it are crap.
Head and Shoulders Shampoo
Pantene Conditioner
Use the professional stuff!! We can gets it for you! The cheap stuff either makes your hair totally greasy or strips it of all the nutrients and oils it needs. And don't buy the professional brands that they sell in Target or Walmart because those aren't really the professional brands; they are like stripped down versions of the good stuff.
(I sat through a corporate meeting at Armstrong McCall with my mom once! lol
I use Samy. It works good.
Treseme works good too.
And also does Herbal Essence.
OHHH and the very best is Biolage!
It's expensive but it works wonders! :)
sunsilk or redken
spend extra money on shampoos because they will work. you can get them at salons.
pantene
You are right. Drugstore stuff is cheap for a reason. They are full of cheap and harsh ingredients that strip nutrients from your hair. Right again they are full of wax and coat your hair in it. Pantene is the worst and Suave is next. You need to get something from a salon, Matrix is wonderful. Since it is a better product you only have to use a small amount, so it lats much longer, evening out the price. Drugstore conditioner also doesn't repair hair very well, and certainly does not protect it. Do not buy salon brands at Target or Walmart though, that is called gray marketing. Those products are not meant to be sold in a drugstore, they are old, bad, watered down, or simply not what is advertised on the bottle as no distributor would ever provide salon quality products to a drugstore.
Trick question. Right answer: most shampoos are bad for your hair because it drys out your hair. Get a cleansing conditioner instead. I would recommend wen...it works for me.
